Highlighting the Hispanic Community
Problem:
The problem lies in the prevalence of harsh stereotypes faced by Hispanics in the United States, particularly from their white counterparts, who often categorize them as violent, drug users, or gang members. This issue is significant because it undermines the importance of respecting diverse cultures and customs. It's considered highly disrespectful to make assumptions about someone's ethnicity solely based on their appearance, especially when done with negative intentions.
Solution:
I developed an idea aimed at increasing awareness and appreciation for the Hispanic population. By creating a Hispanic-themed children's book, I aim to instill a sense of pride in younger generations about their heritage while fostering a better understanding among non-Hispanic individuals. This initiative seeks to combat prejudice and promote cultural inclusivity by providing educational resources that celebrate diversity. Drawing from my own experiences of not having access to books in my native language while growing up, I envision this book as a valuable resource for children to enjoy at school or before bedtime, filling a gap and promoting cultural understanding from an early age
